Simon's "1 Minute Money Message" (Episode 6): What Are the Top 3 Ways That People Are Cyber Scammed?

Welcome to Episode 6 of "One Minute Money Message" where Simon will outline Simple Ideas to Grow, Protect and Manage Your Wealth.

"It's how you deal with failure that determines

how you achieve success."

Quote by David Farity.

What are the top three ways that people are cyber scammed?

#1 is phishing

So that's where a a scammer will send a fake email that appears to be from a legitimate source like a bank or a government institution like Medicare or the Tax Office, and they trick you into giving up your personal information or clicking on dodgy or malicious links.

#2 is social engineering

So that's where scammers manipulate you into revealing sensitive information or performing actions that benefit the scammer.

For example, a scammer might pose as a Tech Support Rep and convince you to give them remote access to your computer and then off they go.

#3 would be online shopping scam

Scammers selling fake products or goods, never delivering what you think you purchased and charging your credit card multiple times.

So obviously be very cautious when you're shopping online.  Try to research the sellers and use reputable sellers, and always use a secure payment method.

If you need help in this area or you have been scammed, as a great resource called idcare.org

Idcare.org which is a non government counselling and assistance service, and also we have a cyber safety checklist available.

Jump on our website on the contact form if you want to get a copy of that and make a request.

Thanks for watching!

Simon
